The SendingStone review

Speak with Animals is a first-level spell available to Bards, Druids, and Rangers. It allows the caster to communicate with animals for a duration of ten minutes. This spell can be cast quickly with only verbal and somatic components, and it is also available as a ritual. The range of the spell is self, allowing the caster to be the center of the animal communication.

Some players find Speak with Animals to be a valuable spell, as it can allow them to gather information or build alliances with animals they encounter. Others feel that the 10-minute duration is too short, and the spell does not offer enough benefits to justify using a spell slot or ritual.

Overall, Speak with Animals can be a useful spell in certain situations, such as when dealing with animals that may be hostile or may have important information. However, its usefulness ultimately depends on the campaign and the DM's interpretation of how animals interact with the world.
