You touch a length of rope that is up to 60 feet long. One end of the rope then rises into the air until the whole rope hangs perpendicular to the ground. At the upper end of the rope, an invisible entrance opens to an extradimensional space that lasts until the spell ends.
The extradimensional space can be reached by climbing to the top of the rope. The space can hold as many as eight Medium or smaller creatures. The rope can be pulled into the space, making the rope disappear from view outside the space.
Attacks and spells can't cross through the entrance into or out of the extradimensional space, but those inside can see out of it as if through a 3-foot-by-5-foot window centered on the rope.
Anything inside the extradimensional space drops out when the spell ends.
Rope Trick is a spell that allows the caster to conjure a rope that leads to an extradimensional space that can be accessed via climbing. The space can accommodate up to eight people for an hour, or until dispelled. While in the space, the occupants are invisible and can't be heard from the outside, making it an effective tool for escape or ambush.
Opinions on the spell vary, with some calling it an essential tool for any wizard's arsenal, while others find it situational and rarely useful. Some criticize the material components as being inconvenient and difficult to obtain, while others argue that the cost is negligible in the grand scheme of things.
Overall, Rope Trick is a versatile spell that can be used in a variety of situations, but its usefulness ultimately depends on the creativity and strategic thinking of the caster.
Rope Trick is D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) 5th edition content, but other TTRPGs may have their own version such as a Rope Trick Pathfinder edition. Want to use Rope Trick in a VTT (virtual tabletop)? Try out SendingStone for free today!
