Smaller than giant sharks and hunter sharks, reef sharks inhabit shallow waters and coral reefs, gathering in small packs to hunt. A full-grown specimen measures 6 to 10 feet long.
Pack Tactics: The shark has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the shark's allies is within 5 ft. of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.
Water Breathing: The shark can breathe only underwater.
Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage.
The Reef Shark is a commonly encountered creature in D&D and is a fairly weak enemy with a CR of only 1/2. With a natural armor of 12, it can be difficult to hit, but it only has 22 hit points and a passive perception of 12. Its bite attack deals moderate damage but is not particularly dangerous. Overall, the Reef Shark is a good low-level monster for beginner players or as a minor obstacle in a larger encounter. However, for more experienced parties, it may not prove to be much of a challenge.
Reef Shark is D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) 5th edition content, but other TTRPGs may have their own version such as a Reef Shark Pathfinder edition. Want to use Reef Shark in a VTT (virtual tabletop)? Try out SendingStone for free today!
