Mastiffs are impressive hounds prized by humanoids for their loyalty and keen senses. Mastiffs can be trained as guard dogs, hunting dogs, and war dogs. Halflings and other Small humanoids ride them as mounts.
Keen Hearing and Smell: The mastiff has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 11 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
The Mastiff is a creature in Dungeons & Dragons with fairly average stats and a low challenge rating of 1/8. Its low intelligence and unaligned alignment make it a useful minion for a variety of different encounters. Its high Dexterity and passive perception of 13 make it a good scout or guard animal, and its powerful bite attack can deal decent damage in combat. However, its low AC and HP make it vulnerable to attacks and likely to be taken down quickly if focused on by enemies. Overall, the Mastiff is a solid choice for a low-level encounter or as a companion animal for a player character.
Mastiff is D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) 5th edition content, but other TTRPGs may have their own version such as a Mastiff Pathfinder edition. Want to use Mastiff in a VTT (virtual tabletop)? Try out SendingStone for free today!
