The SendingStone review

The giant rat's stats sheet indicates that it is a relatively weak creature with low ability scores and a low challenge rating. However, this does not necessarily mean that the creature is useless or ineffective. In fact, the giant rat can serve as a formidable opponent for low-level adventurers or as an obstacle to an otherwise easy quest.

The creature's unaligned alignment means that it has no particular allegiance or motivation, making it a versatile encounter for a dungeon master. Additionally, its high dexterity and bite attack provide it with some offensive capabilities, while its moderate hit points give it some durability in battle.

Despite its relatively weak stats, the giant rat can also serve as a great opportunity for roleplay and world-building. For example, a village plagued by giant rats could create an interesting side quest for adventurers, and encountering a giant rat in the wilderness could provide insight into the ecosystem and food chain of the fantasy world. Overall, while it may not be the most impressive or powerful enemy, the giant rat has its place in any good dungeon master's toolbox.
