Thin and wispy flames wreathe your body for the duration, shedding bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet. You can end the spell early by using an action to dismiss it.
The flames provide you with a warm shield or a chill shield, as you choose. The warm shield grants you resistance to cold damage, and the chill shield grants you resistance to fire damage.
In addition, whenever a creature within 5 feet of you hits you with a melee attack, the shield erupts with flame. The attacker takes 2d8 fire damage from a warm shield, or 2d8 cold damage from a cold shield.
Fire Shield is a powerful spell available to only Wizards who reach level 4. The spell provides a layer of protection that lasts for 10 minutes after it is cast. The caster is surrounded by flames that keep enemies at bay. The spell can be cast by using a bit of phosphorus or a firefly as a material component. Fire Shield is a versatile spell that can be used both defensively and offensively, as the flames can cause damage to any creature that comes in contact with them. However, this additional defense does not make the caster completely untouchable, but it can certainly give them an advantage in combat. Overall, Fire Shield is a solid choice for Wizards looking to increase their survivability and damage output in combat.
Fire Shield is D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) 5th edition content, but other TTRPGs may have their own version such as a Fire Shield Pathfinder edition. Want to use Fire Shield in a VTT (virtual tabletop)? Try out SendingStone for free today!
