For the duration, you know if there is an aberration, celestial, elemental, fey, fiend, or undead within 30 feet of you, as well as where the creature is located. Similarly, you know if there is a place or object within 30 feet of you that has been magically consecrated or desecrated. The spell can penetrate most barriers, but it is blocked by 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt.
Detect Evil and Good is a useful spell for a cleric or paladin who wants to detect whether an entity or object nearby is good or evil. It gives a range of self within which the caster can detect evil or good, and can be cast quickly with just a verbal and somatic component. The spell also requires concentration, so it cannot be used while the caster is engaged in combat or other activities that require their full attention. Overall, Detect Evil and Good can be a useful tool when trying to assess the moral or ethical nature of a situation.
Detect Evil and Good is D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) 5th edition content, but other TTRPGs may have their own version such as a Detect Evil and Good Pathfinder edition. Want to use Detect Evil and Good in a VTT (virtual tabletop)? Try out SendingStone for free today!
