Brute: A melee weapon deals one extra die of its damage when the bugbear hits with it (included in the attack).
Surprise Attack: If the bugbear surprises a creature and hits it with an attack during the first round of combat, the target takes an extra 7 (2d6) damage from the attack.
Morningstar: Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d8 + 2) piercing damage.
Javelin: Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 30/120 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) piercing damage in melee or 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage at range.
Bugbears are a formidable foe for low-level players, with AC 16 and 27 hit points. They are chaotic evil and speak common and goblin, making them a potential threat in many situations. Their DEX of 14 also makes them quick and agile, making it harder for players to land attacks. However, with a CHA of only 9 and INT of 8, they are not particularly intelligent or persuasive. Overall, Bugbears are a solid choice for early-game encounters that provide a challenge for players without being overwhelmingly difficult.
Bugbear is D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) 5th edition content, but other TTRPGs may have their own version such as a Bugbear Pathfinder edition. Want to use Bugbear in a VTT (virtual tabletop)? Try out SendingStone for free today!
